Crossey Engineering Ltd. provided the electrical, lighting (Consullux Lighting Consultants) and telecommunications (ICS2) design services for the major renovations/restoration to St. Michael’s Cathedral in downtown Toronto. Upgrades included major electrical and telecommunications upgrades, exterior lighting, rectory basement repairs, crypt fire alarm upgrade, elevator upgrades, backup generator, crypt, chapel and loft infrastructure (including lighting), balcony choir loft, and crypt/narthex renovation to mention a few.
The Crossey Engineering IT group provided overall coordination of all low voltage disciplines on the project. This allowed for new 21st century technologies within the historic fabric of the 170-year-old mother church of the Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto.
The project established new connectivity between three new telecommunications rooms and provided space and power requirements for a new audiovisual system, new Casavant pipe organ control equipment, as well as IT equipment including a pervasive wireless network. Lighting, audio/visual and BAS controls have been given roaming freedom using IPad touch panel apps allowing for live management of these systems via the restricted access wireless network in the cathedral.
