Working with the design group for Canadore College/Nipissing University Library, Crossey Engineering developed a conceptual design to meet LEED Silver standards, although the owner decided not to pursue the application.
We directed the energy analysis simulations and incorporated high-efficiency lighting, condensing boilers, in-floor heating and cooling, heat recovery on exhaust air, demand ventilation, daylighting, and an efficient building envelope. Energy simulations showed a 45% efficiency beyond the requirements of the National Energy Code.
At approximately 57,800 sq. ft. this project had a total construction budget of about $16.5 million.
The expertise of Gruen, our sustainability group, supplied energy-efficient design in all aspects of building development. This included coordinating envelope performance with mechanical heating/cooling systems, lighting systems with occupancy and daylighting savings, and ensuring that design for indoor air quality achieved the highest levels at the best possible efficiency rating.
