Originally constructed in 1919, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall underwent an $8.6 million dollar renovation for which Crossey Engineering provided the mechanical, electrical, and lighting design by Consullux.
Comprised of a 2,000 seat music theatre and 10,000 sq. ft. Music Education Centre, renovations were made to the existing historical site, and a new 150,000 sq. ft. addition with a 250 seat theatre, rehearsal hall, backstage services, dressing rooms, and administration space.
Existing air conditioning units and under-floor air distribution systems were replaced with an air distribution system that moves air through artwork in the pre-existing ceilings, enabling a climate-controlled environment without disrupting the hall’s appearance. The center’s lighting was also upgraded and the fixtures refurbished in keeping with the building’s history.
