Royal Conservatory of Music

Toronto, Ontario

Project Description

Founded in 1886, the Royal Conservatory of Music is Canada’s oldest institutional educator of the arts and has trained some of Canada’s most prominent musicians.

Undergoing renovations to fuse new technologies with the original architecture, Crossey Engineering provided the electrical design and Consullux the lighting design for the 190, 000 sq. ft. facility. The original site of McMaster Hall was blended with the new TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, and in completion features sixty acoustically treated practise rooms, a rehearsal hall, and Koerner Hall, a performance venue of approximately 1,135 seats.

Built to emulate the classic shoebox design of many European theatres, the hall provides superb acoustic conditions for a wide variety of musical endeavours.
