After acquiring the celebrated Black Star photography collection, the Ryerson Image Centre (RIC) recently opened with electrical, mechanical, and lighting designed by Crossey Engineering and our affiliate, Consullux Lighting Consultants. Designed to hold multiple galleries, a vault, a research centre, and a learning space for students, the RIC was once used as a brewery storage warehouse.
A striking, multi-panelled LED lighting system illuminates the building’s exterior, a design that required electrical engineers to ensure materials and cables remained invisible. Mechanically, the main gallery was designed with a completely independent HVAC system to protect the artifacts during emergencies. The systems all work together to achieve optimal efficiency, and sustain consistent lighting and airflow throughout each room.
